Define “like.” Because you should LOVE your smile. Ya heard? It’s true, braces improve your smile, but there are also some pretty significant health benefits to orthodontic treatment. Even the smallest space between your teeth or slightest overlap gives plaque and bacteria a perfect hiding place. These bacteria love to multiply, and where does all that bacteria go? Down into your gums. But that’s not all. Bacteria can destroy the bone that anchors your teeth, and bone loss leads to tooth loss. Can you imagine?! Orthodontic treatment not only improves your smile, but keeps it looking great for a lifetime.
Children who still have their baby teeth may need some help to make sure the adult teeth come in correctly and improve jaw development. The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends all kids see an orthodontist for an initial evaluation at age seven. Of course, braces are part of life as a teenager, but we also work with adults and even grandma and grandpa!
Ask this guy ==> Never. Seriously, stop thinking this! Orthodontic treatments are beneficial at any age.
You may need to wear your braces for a couple of years, but this varies by patient. Do your part and listen to our docs and you’ll get your braces off on time (and maybe even BEFORE!) We’ve seen it happen hundreds of times!
“Expensive” is a relative term, so we can best answer this by saying we maximize the benefits under your insurance, offer tiered treatment plans based on what you can afford and even have in-house financing. We don’t want our patients to choose orthodontic treatments based on cost alone, so we do everything we can to help the cost fit into your budget.
Brushing and flossing with braces can be tricky at first. All it takes is a little practice, and you’ll be a pro in no time. Read our helpful tips here.
All in all, no. The answer is they should never HURT. There may be some times when you notice different types of discomfort with your braces. This is totally normal and will go away quickly.
